TOEFL/TWE :
Test for written English can be given in the TOEFL (Test of English as a foreign language) examines a student’s writing skills with a short essay on a given Topic. The maximum score on a TWE is 6.0. The standard TOEFL format lasts for about 2 hours and normally has 150 questions. There are 3 sections here consisting of multiple choice Questions designed to measure English skills. They consist of Sections on Listening Comprehensions, Structure and written expressions and reading comprehensions. The TOEFL Test is valid for 2 years only. It is hoped that the TOEFL will be changed in 2005 and in the new context, the Speaking component will be added. In this new context Student can be asked to demonstrate how well they can use English to Communicate. The Test will involve integrated skills like reading a passage, listen to a lecturer and to speak about it. The new test will be a computer-based test with a fixed Time and a fixed no of questions. The TOEFL now costs $ 130.

TSE :
Tests of Spoken English test a Students ability to use English as a spoken language. This lasts 20 minutes. The Test asked taped questions and responses are recorded.
This is required for Institutes providing Teaching Assistance ships for Graduate Students in USA.
In TSE the
1. Students have to tell a story based on a 6 Picture sequence
2. Describe a Graph and answer related questions
3. Answer 2 questions about ideas
4. Respond to 3 questions by taking the part of some one in a work place situation conducted over Telephone and IVR System.
5. And an essay section called writing assessment.9 questions have to be completed in 20 minutes offered 12 times a year |
