CURRICULUM VITAE, BIO-DATA & RESUME

In general there is not much difference among these three terms. They all refers to the personal details of the person to whom it belongs but there is a little difference among these three.

A C.V is a description of the Person detailing all the education from High School Up, All the Jobs done, Projects undertaken, Interests, Hobbies, Responsibilities held, Special accomplishments that differentiate you from others etc. including names of references also.

A Bio-Data is a shorter document detailing the working background and the relevant educational Qualifications germane to the Job applied for.

A Resume is only a single page document which refers to the bare bone of the appointments held by the person and very brief details of his education and personality.

All these three (What ever the case may be that you are sending for the Job Application) should embody three main features.

1. It should be neat and crisp document
2. Your C.V must address the need of the recruiter
3. Your C.V should tell a true and accurate story about you.

Remember that if a C.V does not come up to the exact standard, then it will just get relegated to the dust been of the employer. So preparing a good C.V is important. The following 12 dimensions can be taken in to consideration while preparing a Good C.V for Job Application.

1. Keep your C.V short and simple –
Generally fresher should not make their C.V more than One Page
People with 1-5 years of experience never more than 2 pages written on one side of an
A-4 size sheet in not less than 10 point Font (Size) for Arial Font and 11 Point Font (Size) for Times New Roman.
2. Mention the truth always. Do not volunteer adverse information’s about your self.
3. Write separate lines for your Names, Address, City-State-Zip Code, Phone-Fax-E mail.
4. Write your Name at the Top of your subsequent pages
5. Do not use Headers and Footers.
6. Use an outline format for your Job duties without using Bullets.
7. Make all your contact information’s clearly mentioned at the right beginning.
8. Highlight the points mentioning your strengths and special abilities in relation to the Job to which you apply.
9. Mention your experience in resume chronologically order (The most recently held Job first followed by others and similarly in case of educational Qualifications , the latest course taken first followed by the others.)
10. In case of previous jobs , bullet point special achievements preferably in a single sentence can be mentioned.
11. Specialist Training Interventions at work or study can also be mentioned for relevance to the company.
12. Mentioning a Professional affiliation is a plus.
13. Personal details like Age, Maritial Status etc. have to be mentioned if you are applying in an Indian Concern but are not needed for abroad.
14. If you are sending a Hard copy, then it is an added advantage.
15. Keep to short sentence and Bullet Points in the hard copy. (Not in e-C.V)
16. Check and find out all the grammer and spelling mistakes if you have some/any.
